Born on December 31, 1988, she grew up in East London, where she was actively involved in music from a young age. Msaki\u2019s music career officially began in 2008 when, at 20, she joined an alternative rock band while attending college. Her talent has steadily gained recognition, and her recent collaboration with Prince Kaybee on the track &#8220;Fetch Your Life&#8221; has marked a significant milestone in her career.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Msaki released her debut extended play <strong><em>Nal&#8217;ithemba <\/em><\/strong>in 2013, followed by her first solo studio album, <strong><em>Zaneliza: How The Water Moves<\/em><\/strong>, in 2016. The album earned a nomination for Best Adult Contemporary Album, further establishing her in the music industry.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Early Life<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Msaki was born in East London, a city in the Eastern Cape Province on South Africa\u2019s southeastern coast and part of the Buffalo City Metropolitan Municipality, in 1988. Now 36 years old, Msaki spent her early years in various locations, including Cathcart, Butterworth, Nqamakhwe, Peddie, and Grahamstown. Her family\u2019s musical background, with her father as a DJ and her grandmother as a composer, greatly influenced her musical journey. Msaki attended Cathcart High School and briefly studied at Nelson Mandela University before moving on to Rhodes University, where she earned a Master of Fine Arts degree.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In 2008, she joined The Patience, an alternative rock group based in East London, and was also part of the electro-experimental band Johnny Cradle in Cape Town. By 2009, she had taken on the role of guitarist and lead vocalist for the duo Kate and I, formed in Grahamstown. To further her music education, Msaki attended a music school in North Carolina, USA, in 2012.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Career<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Msaki established her own record label, One Shushu Day Artistry, and released her debut extended play &#8220;Nal&#8217;ithemba&#8221; in 2013, produced by Cobus Van Dyk. In 2016, she received significant acclaim, winning at the 7th Standard Bank Ovation Awards and taking the Gold Award First Place at Cape Town Fringe. Her single &#8220;Imfama Ziyabona,&#8221; released in 2016, was a major hit, remaining on the Metro FM charts for 19 consecutive weeks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In June 2017, Msaki released her debut album, &#8220;Zaneliza: How The Water Moves,&#8221; in South Africa. Co-produced by Nduduzo Makhathini, the album\u2019s promotion included a performance at the National Art Festival. It was later nominated for Best Adult Contemporary Album at the 23rd South African Music Awards.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In 2019, Msaki collaborated with South African DJ Prince Kaybee on the single &#8220;Fetch Your Life,&#8221; which topped the iTunes Dance charts upon its release on February 8. Later that year, she released &#8220;Pearls to Swine,&#8221; featuring TRESOR and Kid X, which earned a nomination for Best Produced Video. She also co-wrote the single &#8220;Undithatha Kancinci&#8221; for Kelly Khumalo.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In March 2021, Msaki contributed to &#8220;Rhythms of Zamunda (Music Inspired By: Coming 2 America).&#8221; On October 22 of that year, she released the double single &#8220;Fetch Your Life II&#8221; and &#8220;Mntakababa,&#8221; featuring Kabza De Small and Focalistic, and contributed to the &#8220;African Lullabies Pt. 1&#8221; compilation album by Platoon. On November 19, she released her double album &#8220;Platinumb Heart.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Msaki capped off 2021 by headlining the 14th Annual Mzansi Fela Festival in December at the State Theatre in Gauteng, alongside Amanda Black, Zo\u00eb Modiga, and Mandisi Dyantyisa.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In January 2022, Msaki collaborated on the song &#8220;Own The Future&#8221; with Goodluck, Shekhinah, and YoungstaCPT. She also received a nomination for Female Vocalist of the Year at the Global Music Awards Africa 2022.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In early February, Msaki was featured on Apple Music&#8217;s Home Session series. On February 6, she unveiled six pieces of her artwork titled &#8220;Platinumb Heart of Love In Protest&#8221; and performed at Nirox Sculpture Park to promote her double album.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">On March 10, 2023, Msaki and Tubatsi Moloi released their joint album &#8220;Synthetic Hearts.&#8221; Msaki collaborated with Sun-El Musician on the single &#8220;Amandla,&#8221; which was released on November 3, 2023.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Towards the end of April 2024, Msaki and Tubatsi Moloi announced the album &#8220;Synthetic Hearts (Part II).&#8221; Two singles from the album, &#8220;Imini Yesithembiso&#8221; and &#8220;Green to Gold,&#8221; were released on March 13, 2024. &#8220;Izinto Zobomi&#8221; followed as the second single, released on May 4, 2024, and the full album was released on May 24, 2024.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In October 2024, Msaki announced her upcoming concert, &#8220;Camagu in Symphony: 10 Years of Gratitude,&#8221; set to take place at the SunBet Arena on December 12.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Television<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In early November 2021, Msaki made her screen debut as a guest judge on season 17 of Idols South Africa. In June 2024, she joined the SABC 1 singing competition reality show uShuni Womhlaba as a judge.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Personal Life<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Msaki has three children with her husband, with the latest addition to her family announced earlier this year. She has made significant efforts to keep her family members&#8217; identities private, including that of her husband.
