BBC Narrates Amapiano Story In New Documentary

The BBC has premiered an all-new documentary titled “This Is Amapiano,” which shines a spotlight on the South African-birthed genre. This Is Amapiano is hosted by South African radio host, DJ and producer Da Kruk, who played an instrumental role in the genre getting commercial radio airplay.

The documentary was shot here in South Africa and it had appearance from some of the most important figures in the genre such as Major League DJz, Felo Le Tee, DBN Gogo and Daliwonga. Guest appearances include Davido and BBC 1Xtra radio presenters DJ Edu and Jermiah Asiamah.

On this episode, these piano pioneers where asked how the piano sounds came about and the struggle facing the genre.

BBC will be airing a radio version of the documentary, presented by Da Kruk and DJ Edu, on BBC Radio 1Xtra and This Is Africa later this week.

The music executive strongly believes in continuously seeking new avenues and ways to expand and grow, and has managed to showcase South African and wider African music on international platforms.
