DJ Stokie Biography

DJ Stokie Biography, Age, Songs. Real name. Setoki Mbatha is a 41 year old South African disk jockey and record producer. His is known more popularly by his stage name, DJ Stokie. DJ Stokie was born and brought up in the township of Soweto where he started deejaying at a very early age.

DJ Stokie started his career in the early 2000’s, performing at local pubs and parties but he didn’t get his big break until 2006 when he emerged as a finalist on the on the Mad Half Hour, a feature program on the Joburg-based youth radio station YFM. Till date, Stokie still performs regular mixes and sessions for YFM.

Stokie is very talented and his instrument of choice is the Piano, which he has been playing for many years. He is also considered to be among the pioneers of the new Amapiano music Sub-genre that has taken Mzansi by storm and his single, AmaInternational is an Amapiano fan favorite.

DJ Stokie frequently performs with his friend and long time collaborator DJ Jaivane and are regarded in some spheres as the Kings of Amapiano (a title that they share with the likes of Kabza De Small, DJ Maphorisa, MFR Souls and JazziDisciples).

Amapiano Movement

On December 13th 2019, DJ Stokie released his debut album, Amapiano Movement, Volume 1, the first of several installments that’s to come. The album featured some of the biggest names in South African dance music, including, DJ Maphrisa, Kabza De Small, De Mthuda, Loxion Deep, Bitter Soul, Masterpiece, Stahndo, Lebo & Killa, and DJ Farmer. Surprsingly, Jaivane didn’t make it to the tracklist.

My Journey

Dj Stokie’s Sophomore Album, My Journey was released in December 2020 and certified his status as one of the all time greats in the industry.
