Early Life
Mr JazziQ, born Tumelo Manyoni on 3rd March 1995, was raised in Alexandra, South Africa, by his grandmother, while his parents lived in the northern part of Johannesburg. He attended Highlands North Boys’ High School and developed a deep passion for music from an early age, influenced heavily by his father and uncle, who frequently interacted with renowned South African musicians. As a result, Tumelo grew up surrounded by artists like Culoe Da Song, Shimza, and Oskido.
By the age of fourteen, Tumelo had already started DJing, showcasing impressive skills that led him to pursue a career as a DJ. Two years later, at the age of sixteen, he began producing music, marking the early stages of his journey in shaping the Amapiano genre.
Career
Mr JazziQ began his DJ career at the age of fourteen, and by sixteen, he had started producing music. Initially, he experimented with various genres before partnering with Josiah, who was also working on Amapiano tracks. Together, they formed the renowned Amapiano DJ duo JazziDisciples, a partnership that helped them both gain recognition in the genre.
In March 2020, Mr JazziQ ventured into a solo career with the release of his debut album "0303," which included hits like "Askies," "Blue Skies," and "Hello Mo’Girl." His track "Askies," featuring Moonchild Sanelly and Fake Love, earned a gold certification from the Recording Industry of South Africa (RiSA). Following this, in August 2020, he dropped his first EP, "For The Babies," featuring popular artists such as Kamo Mphela, Lady Du, and Londie London.
Mr JazziQ continued his successful streak with the October 2020 release of "Maba Jabul’ Abantu," a collaboration album with Busta 929. This project featured an array of talented artists, including Reece Madlisa, Zuma, Mpura, Riky Rick, and 9umber. By December of the same year, he had released the smash hit "Umsebenzi Wethu," solidifying his influence in the Amapiano scene.
Mr JazziQ's popularity extended to performances on high-profile platforms, including Channel O's "Lockdown House Party" and the finale of "Idols South Africa" Season 16. In early 2021, he released "Amaneighbour," featuring Killer Kau, Reece Madlisa, Zuma, and ThackzinDJ, which reached #7 on Good Hope FM's Top 10 House Chart. He followed this up with the single "Woza," featuring Lady Du, Boohle, and Kabza De Small, and collaborated on Felo Le Tee's track "Nje Nje."
On April 23, 2021, Mr JazziQ released his second album, "Party With The English," marking his first international push. He expressed excitement about introducing his music to global audiences, aiming to spread Amapiano to dance floors worldwide. Later that year, he performed live at the AmaFest Tour in the UK alongside South African stars like Focalistic, Cassper Nyovest, DBN Gogo, and Kamo Mphela.
In August 2022, Mr JazziQ dropped his third album, "All You Need Is Piano," which featured collaborations with artists such as Murumba Pitch, Mpura, Lady Du, Tsiki XII, and F3 Dipapa. His influence and role in the evolution of Amapiano continue to grow as he pushes the genre forward.
Personal Life
Mr JazziQ has been linked romantically to several ladies over time. One of the most dominant rumors involves his association with influencer Mihlali Ndamase, though the exact status of their relationship remains unconfirmed. The Amapiano DJ and producer is also rumored to have had romantic involvements with more than five partners, including personalities like Sithelo Shozi and Khanya Mkangisa.
Additionally, Mr JazziQ has reportedly been in relationships with Zinhle Masilela, Buhle Gugwana, and Sithelo Shozi in the past, though the details of these relationships have largely remained private. Despite the rumors, Mr JazziQ tends to keep much of his personal life away from the public eye.
