Ntokozo Mbambo, a 39-year-old South African gospel singer, began her music career at the young age of 15 with the renowned gospel group Joyous Celebration. Known for hits like "Jehovah Is Your Name," "We Pray for More," and "Esiphambanweni," Mbambo’s exceptional vocal talent has made her a sought-after artist, opening for icons such as Yolanda Adams, Cece Winans, Donnie McClurkin, and Kirk Franklin. Her career has taken her to perform internationally in countries including the UK, Ghana, Swaziland, the US, Botswana, and Kenya.
In addition to her singing career, Mbambo made her judging debut on "I Want to Sing Gospel" in 2014 and later on "Idols SA" season 17 in 2021. Early Life and Education
Ntokozo Mbambo, born on November 6, 1985, in uMlazi, KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa, developed a passion for music at an early age. She joined the South African gospel choir Joyous Celebration as a lead singer in 2002 at just 15, becoming its youngest member at the time.
Mbambo pursued higher education in Information Technology programming, earning a degree from Durban North Varsity College in 2006. She later attended the University of Zululand, graduating with a Bachelor of Education (BEd) in English Language and Literature/Letters and Social Sciences.
Private Life
Ntokozo Mbambo married her childhood friend Nqubeko Mbatha in 2008, and the couple has two daughters, one of whom is named Fanelesibonge Ayanga Mbatha. Known for valuing privacy, Ntokozo and Nqubeko have chosen to maintain a low profile, avoiding public controversies and focusing on their family life. The South African gospel singer currently resides with her family in Johannesburg, South Africa.
Career
Shortly after joining Joyous Celebration, the South African artist Ntokozo Mbambo released her debut album "Bambelela" in 2001. She pursued her passion for music with determination, supported by her caring parents.
Her live album, "Keep on Believing," was released in 2007, earning her nominations for Best Gospel Album at the Metro FM Music Awards and three nominations at the 2007 Crown Gospel Music Awards. After leaving Joyous Celebration in 2011, Mbambo signed with Koko Records and began working on her solo studio album the following year.
"Filled," recorded during a concert at the Lyric Theatre, was released in 2012 and achieved Double Platinum certification in South Africa. In 2014, she made her television debut as a judge on the third season of the SABC 2 gospel reality competition "I Want to Sing Gospel."
Her fourth studio album, "Spirit and Life," was released on October 10, 2015, and received nominations for Album of Excellence and Female Artiste of Excellence, winning the Artiste Of Excellence Southern Africa and Event of Excellence at the 2017 African Gospel Music and Media Awards.
In July 2021, Mbambo appeared as a guest judge on "Idols SA" season 17. In early November 2022, she surprised fans by announcing a new studio album via Instagram. "Moments in Time" was released digitally on November 6, 2018.
Her studio album "Lavish Worship" was released on March 21, 2023, winning three awards for Female Artist of the Year, Album of the Year, and Best Contemporary Faith Album of the Year at the 29th South African Music Awards. Additionally, "Lavish Worship" was nominated for Best Female and won Best Gospel Album at the 18th Metro FM Music Awards.
In early July 2024, Mbambo performed the South African National Anthem for the Springboks at Hollywoodbets Kings Park Stadium in Durban.
